Sculpt Your Way to the Perfect Figure with Liposuction
It is the lucky individual who examines his or her figure and sees perfection. For most of us, we see a body that is not perfect. People come in all shapes and sizes, but it is rare to be entirely happy with our own shape and size. Proper diet and exercise can correct some of the imperfections, but, unfortunately, some of the changes brought about by pregnancy, weight fluctuations, hormonal change, or aging cannot be corrected no matter how hard we try. People consider liposuction when sensible eating and exercise seem unable or unlikely to produce the desired results. He offers tumescent liposuction procedures and other body contouring operations at his office.
Dr. Humber and his staff are committed to each patient's success. A key to this success is gaining as much information about liposuction procedures as possible before deciding if the procedure is right for you. Patients considering liposuction or other cosmetic procedures are encouraged to review the following information and to contact our office to schedule a complimentary consultation or to obtain additional information.
The Tumescent Liposuction Procedure
Whether one calls the procedure liposuction or liposculpting, most agree that the results depend on the experience of the cosmetic surgeon performing the procedure. He has been performing liposuction since 1982. He was Chief Resident in Virginia when Dr. YG Illouz, the originator of liposuction, first came from Paris to teach American doctors the new technique of liposuction. He assisted him during these first cases in 1982.
The doctor performs tumescent liposuction in his AAAASF-certified surgicenter. Tumescent liposuction involves injecting large amounts of a dilute anesthetic solution into the areas to be contoured. The tumescent fluid produces numbness and constriction of the small blood vessels in fat. It allows fat to be removed with minimal blood loss. The physicians performs most liposuction under general anesthesia. Fat is removed through multiple small incisions ¼ inch or smaller which are hidden in skin folds.
Safety is always the number one priority for our staff. All liposuction is performed under the strictest sterile conditions. An anesthesiologist administers the anesthetic and monitors all liposuction patients throughout their operation. All liposuction cases are limited to a total of 5000 ccs, as the safety of liposuction under this limit has been well established.
Recovery time is dependent upon how much fat is removed. Liposuction operations results in some pain and swelling which may last from several days to a week. Most patients are able to resume most of their daily activities in a few days. Full exercise may begin in 2 weeks.
Liposuction is not the answer to all body contouring problems. Good results require reasonable skin elasticity and muscle tone. It is an operation designed to improve the contour of the figure. It is not a weight loss technique. Permanent improvements in the figure occur, but only if the patient remains committed to maintaining his or her weight.
As with all surgical procedures, liposuction procedures do carry with it some risk. To learn more about liposuction and other cosmetic procedures, please contact our office today.
