Look Better and Feel Better with a Breast Reduction
Women with overly large breasts often suffer back, neck, and shoulder discomfort which can make each day miserable. Finding clothes that fit can be a challenge, and controlling weight can be a problem when pain prevents exercise. Large breasted women may feel self-conscious and find that their breast size brings them unwanted attention. Fortunately, there is a safe, effective solution to the problems caused by large breasts. Breast reduction procedures reduce not only the size and weight of the breasts, but also lifts and shapes the breasts making the patient more comfortable and more confident in her figure. Plastic surgeon Dr. Philip Humber offers breast reduction procedures to his patients in his surgical office in Encinitas.
Dr. Humber and our staff are committed to each patient's success. A key to this success is gaining as much information about breast reduction as possible before deciding if the procedure is right for you. Breast Reduction
Dr. Humber has performed breast reduction operations in Southern California for over 20 years. He is well known for creating attractive, natural breasts that compliment the patient's figure. Breast reduction operations can be performed in our AAAASF-approved surgicenter. Alternatively, if insurance is covering the operation, the procedure will be performed at Scripps Hospital. Breast reduction operations are done under general anesthesia administered by anesthesiologists. The operation takes about 3 hours to perform and is generally done as an outpatient.
Before the procedure begins, he meets with the patient to design the operation. This allows the patient to be involved in determining the positioning of the nipple, the extent of the incisions, and the ultimate size of the breasts. During the procedure, the breast is reshaped and the nipple repositioned by removing excess skin and breast tissue. Although it appears the nipple is removed and reattached, the nipple actually is never detached from the underlying breast tissue. As a result, most breast reduction patients eventually have normal sensation return to the nipple. Once the desired shape, size, and symmetry of the breasts have been achieved, the incisions are meticulously closed with fine suture placed beneath the skin. Usually, there are no sutures that require removal.
Following breast reduction, patients will experience some pain and swelling. Within 3 days, most patients are driving and able to resume much of their daily routine. Most patients return to work in a week. Aerobic exercise may resume in 2 weeks. Muscle-strengthening exercise may resume in a month.
As with all surgical procedures, breast reduction does carry with it some risk. To learn more about breast reduction and other cosmetic procedures, please contact our office today.
